Community Guidelines

Last updated: April 29, 2026

HouseHonest works because the community is honest, specific, and fair. These rules apply to every listing, review, photo, thread, and reply. Violations can result in content removal or account suspension.

The Golden Rule

Critique the property, the price, and the professional conduct — never the person's identity, family, or private life.

✅ What's Encouraged

  • Specific, factual observations: "Roof was replaced in 2018, but gutters drain into foundation."
  • Honest opinions clearly labeled as opinion: "I think the asking price is high for this block."
  • Constructive realtor feedback about communication, fees, and tactics.
  • Neighborhood notes about traffic, noise, schools, flooding, walkability.
  • Receipts: inspection findings, public records, prior sale history.

❌ Photo Rules — Strictly Enforced

  • No photos of people — no families, children, sellers, neighbors, or realtors caught in walkthroughs.
  • No photos of personal belongings that could identify occupants — family photos on walls, name plaques, mail, prescription bottles, school papers, kids' rooms with names.
  • No photos taken without permission during private showings or open houses where photography is prohibited.
  • No interior photos of currently occupied homes unless you are the owner or have written permission.
  • Blur or crop anything identifying before uploading. When in doubt, leave it out.

❌ Never Post

  • Names, phone numbers, or home addresses of private individuals (occupants, neighbors). Public business contact info for licensed realtors is fine.
  • Defamatory false statements. Stating something as fact requires a basis; otherwise, label it opinion.
  • Discrimination, slurs, or content that violates Fair Housing laws (no statements about who would or wouldn't "fit" based on race, religion, family status, disability, etc.).
  • Threats, harassment, doxxing, or coordinated brigading.
  • Paid reviews, fake reviews, vote manipulation, or undisclosed conflicts of interest.
  • Spam, affiliate links, or commercial promotion.
  • Copyrighted material (MLS photos, listing descriptions) you don't own or have rights to.

Reviewing Realtors

  • Stick to your direct experience or documented public conduct.
  • Critique business behavior — fees, disclosures, responsiveness, negotiation tactics.
  • Don't speculate about personal life, finances, or motives.
  • Realtors have a right of reply — they can request to post a verified response.

Reviewing Neighborhoods

  • Describe conditions (noise, traffic, infrastructure, schools, safety stats), not residents' demographics.
  • Fair Housing applies: never describe a neighborhood by who lives there.

Enforcement

  • Anyone can flag content with the Report button on every post.
  • First violation: content removal + warning. Repeated or severe violations: account suspension or ban.
  • Doxxing, threats, and Fair Housing violations are immediate bans.
